RSPO & BPP/Agraria: A Strategy for Profitable Sustainability

 26 May 2018. JAKARTA, Indonesia

For decades the Palm Oil industry in Malaysia & Indonesia had its eyes firmly on maximising profitability. With rising global awareness on environmental and human rights issues plaguing the industry, several measures were taken including the setting up of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. The International body is tasked with promoting regulatory reform and increasing awareness of best practices for an industry that is the largest supplier of vegetable oils in the world.

Now, with BPP/Agraria, it seeks to introduce innovative technologies to help Palm Oil Growers and Processors see that best practices in Sustainability, also can mean an increase in profitability.

Three key areas which are the focus of BPP/Agraria’s Sustainable Technologies are in waste management, yield improvement, and oil loss reduction in processing mills.

”Applied together our technologies alone could add up to USD 5 million a year to an average 10,000 Ha Plantation with 60 TPH mill. Less waste, less chemicals, less deforestation - these are our concerns” says Rajiv Sadasiban, BPP/Agraria’s Director of Commercialisation.

“BPP/Agraria will be moving aggressively to raise awareness of technologies that help companies practise sustainability at the same time see an increase in profitability. The desire for better margins can and must be aligned to a deeper and more eminent desire for a better world.”
